Silence of the Bees
02/12/2008
National Geographic Channel is premiering a documentary called Silence of the Bees which will air on our wildlife channel, Nat Geo Wild, tonight Tuesday 12th February at 10pm.
Silence of the Bees focuses on the issue of Colony Collapse Disorder, the official name given to the mysterious disappearance of honeybees across the US, UK, Europe and Asia. The diversity of bees and of the flowers they pollinate, has declined significantly in Britain over the last 25 years according to research led by the University of Leeds and published in the journal Science (July 2006).
Whilst the programme is focused primarily on the decline in the number of hives in the USA, it does also feature UK experts discussing the situation over here and what, if anything is done to remedy the situation. You can read more about Britain’s bee crisis from a thorough BBC news report by clicking here.
