International Camelid Institute

07/22/2008

Further to the Issue of the Week feature, here is a valuable website for those interested in the welfare and husbandry of Camelids, which include llamas, alpacas, camels, dromedaries and vicunas. The International Camelid Institute (ICI) was established in 2001 and it aims to provide owners and veterinarians with accurate and authoritative information on the health and well being of camelids. The ICI is located within the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the United States, and resources available from the ICI website include a research library of literature citations for more than 35 camelid disease and welfare topics, documents covering issues such as biosecurity, minimum standards of care, animal husbandry, and the nutritional value of selected feedstuffs. There is a ‘Hot Topic’ archive and a ‘Vets Only Discussion Forum.’
